Hi there ShapeShifeter user,
First I would like to emphasise that I have absolutley NO connection with the
developement of ShapeShifter, I^m just a VERY IMPRESSED user who has noted
that many people are having problems getting the Mac up & running.
If you are reading this file then you have at least got the System 7 Desktop :).
Now I will explain how I got my full System 7.0.1 up and running. This way is
a complete Kludge - but at least it works without the need for a real Mac ;)
1. First you need two Amigas and a NULL-Modem-Cable linking them.
2. FTP to the Apple support site FTP.SUPPORT.APPLE.COM and then in the directory
"pub/apple_sw_updates/US/Macintosh/System Software/System 7.0.1/"
download the following to the machine NOT running ShapeShifter;
i. Disk 1 of 6 - Install 1.hqx
ii. Disk 2 of 6 - Install 2.hqx
iii. Disk 3 of 6 - Tidbits.hqx
iv. Disk 4 of 6 - Printing.hqx
v. Disk 5 of 6 - Fonts.hqx
vi. Disk 6 of 6 - Disk Tools.hqx
3. Run ZTerm on the Mac (Supplied with this SSBootDisk) and select Start Capture
from the File Menu.
4. Run a Comm package on the Amiga with the System.hqx files on, and upload them to
the Mac terminal. You may have to play with the Serial settings, I found 2400 baud
very reliable - but it^s also _VERY_ slow....
5. Run BinHex on the Mac (also supplied) and un-hqx the files, this turns them into
.sea (self-extracting-archives) files which you must then double click on to turn
them into .image files.
6.Now select Control Panel from the Apple pull down menu and run Mount Image on
your .image files, this will turn them in persuedo disks on your Hard Drive thus letting
you install System 7.0.1 :)
7. And that should be it, if you have any more questions you can email me, although
I^m using a Mac (courtesy of ShapeShifter) for the first time myself & may not be of
great help ;)..........
